Love your wedding contingency plan

I will admit that this may not be the most exciting part of planning your wedding day, but here it goes, I come with truth…I highly, absolutely recommend you have a weather contingency plan when planning your wedding day.

There are thousands of details to consider, many you may check off the list because you know it won’t be part of your day, or you know right away that you want it. This one, we cannot control. We can control if we are prepared for what mother nature brings and go with it.

Love your contingency plan from the beginning and on your day if it rains, the wind is crazy or its just ridiculously hotter or colder than usual, you will move forward and enjoy each moment to be made. Your guests will as well!

Getting married outdoors during the hotter months? Or as you begin watching the forecast a heat wave is expected? Plan for areas with shade for your guests to cool off. This can include adjusting the location of your ceremony, cocktail and or dinner to an area that offers natural shade, individual or patio umbrellas. Want to avoid covering the entire area, add drapery, a canopy or shade sails over a certain area during the hottest time of the day, so you can still enjoy the beautiful views of your venue. Also, consider offering personal fans for each guest. Same for the colder months, offer a blanket for guests to use. No need to have one blanket per guest, they can cozy up while seated for the ceremony and get the dancing started earlier. This will warm them up!

Dare I say it, rain! I am based in Visalia, California and we do not experience much rain, thankfully for weddings, but we would love a little more rain here and there. Although, we may not experience much rain; it does happen, it will happen. When considering the month and venue you would like to get married in, check the weather trends and you could be better prepared from the beginning. I always travel with a clear umbrella, just in case, for those magical photos in the rain.

When searching for the perfect venue, a question I like to ask is if the venue has a contingency plan. Do they offer a second location if the wedding needs to be moved indoors? Does it cost extra or is it part of the rental? Will the number of your guests fit inside as well?

Consider putting down a deposit for a tent. You may lose the deposit if it is not needed, but the security of knowing you have one reserved may be 100% worth it. This is perfect for all weather conditions, consider the best type of tent for each condition.

Change may happen and you may not know it until it is closer to your wedding day. Keep this in mind and if you need to make adjustments it’s okay, it’s your day, and your guests are there to celebrate your story! Make the quick adjustment, because you are prepared. Keep your guests informed of dress code, jackets recommended, sun hat, bathing suits for hot days (jokes). I know the guest experience is important to you and your guests want you to live it up to the fullest. They will make the adjustments as needed and the celebration will go on.

Let’s create an easy and stress-free day for you!
